Will the Employment Problem Ever Improve?

Will the Employment Problem Ever Improve?

January 3, 2022

It seems like more and more businesses are closing because they are unable to find any employees that want to work.   The most asked question that comes into our office is, "How can I hire enough people to fill the orders coming in?"   The answer that I give companies is, "What are you doing to attract and become an employer of choice?"

Long gone are the days when a good hard-working employee will make the change to a new employer for 25 or 50 cents per hour.  Many of the employees in the workforce are not motivated by cash.  They are looking for a good work/life balance and a chance for advancement.  With 41% of current workers looking for a new job, it is imperative to make yourself attractive to a new employee.  I tell owners to walk around their facility at lunch or break, and make a mental picture of what they see.  Would you want to be a 25-30 year old person that comes to your facility to work long-term?   If the answer is NO, begin to make some positive changes in your operation.  One of the least expensive places to start is with your current employees.  Sit them down (on company paid time) and find out what changes they would like to see.  Do nothing, and try to imagine operating your business with 41% less employees.
