CSC Climate-Smart Wood Sourcing Specialist

New England Forestry Foundation

The Climate-Smart Wood Sourcing Specialist will work with NEFF forestry team and the CSC project team to develop a robust climate-smart wood products supply chain in New England and help document and communicate the resulting climate benefits. This will include outreach to support the expanded use of wood as a climate-smart material and sharing of the pilot tools developed through this project. The primary focus of this position is to determine verifiable and actionable criteria for sourcing climate-smart wood materials for high- and low-grade markets and to develop methods to encourage adoption at scale, which may include bringing these criteria into existing certification systems. Work will be conducted in coordination with project partners, integrated across project areas as needed, and incorporated with the ongoing work of NEFF’s Exemplary Forestry Center.

The Climate-Smart Wood Sourcing Specialist will work under the direction of NEFF’s Bioeconomy Initiative Director and integrate with the ongoing work of NEFF’s Exemplary Forestry Center. Location is flexible across the New England region, but regular presence at NEFF’s Prouty Woods facility located in Littleton, MA will be a significant component of the position.

Experienced Finisher Needed -

Three Years Minimum Experience in a Furniture Manufacturing Setting

This position requires hand operation of color mixing, stain wiping, spraying with a Variety of finish products including paint.

Must have the ability to

  • To Formulate match panel colors based on customer requirements
  • Apply formulated finishes to various species of veneer, solid wood to match customer approvals.
  • Inspects wood products for quality before performing finishing operation.
  • Reviews work orders to determine finishing requirements and special needs.
  • Set up, operate all types of finishing equipment.
  • Prepare white goods for finishing by masking off components before staining where applicable.
  • Applies stain and other finishes to white goods using spraying equipment or hand wiping.
  • Conducts quality inspections to assure constancy of color being applied.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures related to assigned work.
  • Maintain spraying equipment and completing preventative maintenance following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and notifying supervisors of needed repairs.

Excellent pay related to experience. Paid Vacation, Holidays, Voluntary 401K Plan, Life Insurance, Health and Dental Insurance with company contribution.  Hours 6:30-2:45 Monday through Friday with occasional overtime.
