Effective October 14, 2025, Tariff on Imported Cabinets, Furnitue & Parts
WASHINGTON – On Monday, the Trump Administration issued a Presidential Proclamation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, imposing new tariffs on imported timber, lumber, and related wood products. The action follows a U.S. Department of Commerce investigation that determined current import levels pose a threat to national security by weakening domestic wood manufacturing, mill operations, and supply chain stability.
Effective October 14, 2025, the following tariffs will take effect:
-
Softwood timber and lumber: 10% ad valorem duty
-
Upholstered wooden products: 25% duty, rising to 30% on January 1, 2026
-
Kitchen cabinets, vanities, and components: 25% duty, rising to 50% on January 1, 2026
Country-specific provisions include a 10% cap on imports from the United Kingdom and a combined ceiling of 15% for products from the European Union and Japan.
The proclamation underscores the strategic importance of wood products in national defense, critical infrastructure, and industrial resilience, emphasizing the need to reduce foreign reliance, encourage domestic investment, and safeguard U.S. mill capacity and jobs.
