U.S. Forest Service Announces $106 Million Investment to Strengthen the Wood Products Industry
The U.S. Forest Service has announced $106 million in grant funding through its Wood Innovations, Community Wood, and Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance programs to support the growth and modernization of America's forest products industry. The investment is designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing, create new markets for wood products, improve forest health, and reduce wildfire risks by increasing the utilization of low-value and hazardous woody material.
The funding will help businesses, communities, Tribes, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations develop innovative wood products, expand mass timber construction, modernize manufacturing facilities, increase wood energy production, and improve processing capacity across the country. These investments are intended to support rural economies while creating sustainable markets for forest products generated through active forest management.
For the wood products industry, these grants represent an opportunity to invest in new technologies, improve operational efficiency, and position companies for long-term growth. By supporting manufacturing innovation and expanding the use of wood in construction and energy applications, the program helps ensure that America's forests remain both healthy and economically productive.
WPMA encourages members to review current and upcoming funding opportunities to determine whether their organizations may qualify. Additional information on eligibility, funding priorities, and recent grant recipients is available through the U.S. Forest Service Wood Innovations Program.
